Sea Glass Rarity and Value

In order to have sea glass, you first need glass vessels (bottles, etc.).
Over decades these broken vessels will tumble in the surf becoming smooth and will be resaturated with sea water becoming frosted.
This is how sea glass is formed.

As time has passed more and more items have come packaged in plastic vessels and those still packaged in glass are available in a very limited variety of colors.

As increased littering and dumping laws do their much needed job of cleaning up our shores, less glass goes into the ocean resulting in less and less sea glass winding up on our shores.

All of this has led to the increased value of real sea glass. And as many a collector will tell you, there is no substitute for real sea glass.

Historically some vessel colors have been more rare than others and therefore the sea glass derived from them is more valuable than others.
